NERO DI TROIA
SENSING THE AROMA FROM THE ROOTS
The search for quality which is found in the two lines d’ excellence.
The idea to follow this unexpected vocation for winemaking, soon brought Marcello Salvatori to purchase some fertile land, create state-of-the-art production plants and gather together a dynamic and motivated team driven by young oenologists.
This commitment was rewarded by the rapid market confirmation of the quality of the wine, in particular the wines made using local grape varieties: Primo and Ettore.
The main production line, called Terra di Troia – is made exclusively with grapes from native vines – in just a few years it will be joined by the Elda Line, which will offer wines created using the finest Italian grapes.
At the forefront of Puglian excellence, the wine is made from native vines with a truly black fruit, which give it its intense ruby colour. Its success is owed not only to its extraordinary aroma and flavor, but also to the bewitching power of its most profound essence. An essence which recounts an ancient story, one which evokes the myth of Diomede, the hero of the battle of Troy, or Frederick II’s great love for his land in the Capitanata.
The imperative to aim to a production of highest quality, is categorical. This will come from selecting ancient, native vines for cloning, growing in organic soil, whilst still preserving a special attention to methods which ensure the highest respect for the environment.
In fact, since the beginning, the production foresees the use of renewable energy from solar panels, the adoption of thermal treatments in place of substances which contain allergens or chemical stabilizers. This choice has been made in order to reduce the environmental impact, such as the 100% recyclable corks made from sugar cane.
A vocation born in the lands of Troia
The passion for winemaking was an inspiration that almost caught me by surprise, emerging after my first taste of the grapes of Troia..
That perfume and inebriating flavours were a clear and unequivocal message for me: it was a language, a sensory code in this corner of Puglia which spoke of magic and invited me to write a new chapter of my future with my roots as a starting point.
When the passion for wine becomes an entrepreneurial challenge
A passionate adventure by Marcello Salvatore, an entrepreneur who has been in the winemaking trade since the beginning of the new millennium. He hails from Troia, an elegant town known for its art and architecture, set on the rolling hills of the Monti Dauni.
An engineer and expert in renewable energy, Marcello decided to throw himself into oenology thanks to his contact with the current production of this area situated to the east of Foggia, one of the most important areas of the tradition of Nero di Troia.
It was also a sort of spiritual journey in the search for his “roots”. A new project to dedicate to his mother.
And so the idea to follow this unexpected vocation for winemaking, soon brought Marcello to purchase some fertile land, create state-of-the-art production plants and gather together a dynamic and motivated team driven by young oenologists.
